"Failed" dialogue faced when trying to EFILE/Transmit a T1 or T2 return in ProFile

by Intuit• Updated 7 months ago

Issue

ProFile displays a Failed message in the Build EFILE box when you try to EFILE or transmit a T1 and/or T2 return, even if there aren't any auditor warnings or errors.

Note: There's no option to expand the error in the window for details.

Cause of error

The error is likely caused by the wrong file save location in the EFILE Directory field. ProFile can't save files to the root directory, which is often the C: drive.

If a system has been recently upgraded, the file directory may not be correctly set and ProFile will not be able to save the transmission files to the correct directory, thus generating the error.

Resolving the error

ProFile by default will save the files under the following locations. Ensure these are the set locations for best results.

For T1 (.TAX and other CRA files)

  1. Select Options... from the EFILE dropdown menu in the top toolbar. The Electronic Filing Options window displays.
  2. Select T1 from the left-side menu, then select T1 EFILE.
  3. Set the EFILE Directory to C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\My ProFile Data\EFILE.

For T2 (.cor and other CRA files)

  1. Select Options... from the EFILE dropdown menu in the top toolbar. The Electronic Filing Options window displays.
  2. Select T2 from the left-side menu, then select T2 EFILE.
  3. Set the EFILE Directory to C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\My ProFile Data\T2 Returns\EFILE.

Note: The .cor file is an intermediate file for EFILE of T2 to CRA. .cor files can't be generated in ProFile and need to be uploaded to the CRA My Account for T2 returns.
