ProFile users encounter a "End of stream" error message
by Intuit• Updated 1 year ago
Issue
An "End of stream" error message is generally caused due to a network or system disruption when ProFile is trying to save the return.
A variation of the error includes the following message:
"Offset and length were out of bounds for the array or count is greater than the number of elements from index to the end of the source collection."
Resolution
Attempt to open either the backup (*.T1B) or Autosave file (*.T1A) file:
  1. Select Open from the File drop-down menu in the top toolbar. The Open file window displays.
  2. Select [YYYY] ProFile T1 Backup in the Files of type drop-down field.

In the event of the back-up or the Autosave not being available:
- Â Right-click on the file and review the file size. If the file is under 10 KB it is unrecoverable.
- Â If the file is over 10 KB, open MS Notepad from the Windows Start menu.
 1. Select Open under the File top toolbar menu. The Open file window displays.
 2. Select All Files in the Files of type drop-down field.
 3. Open the ProFile return.
 4. Confirm that there is content present.
The content should contain legible English characters. If it is in another language, or is scrambled as depicted in the example below, then the file is unrecoverable:
Recovery options and disclaimer
If not a lot of work has been done to the return, it may be faster to simply re-do the work, as the attempt to recover returns may take several days.
If the return needs to be recovered, and is over 10 KB in size, call ProFile support at 1-800-452-9970 to submit the file for recovery.
Note that it is not possible to guarantee that a file can be recovered, and the return may ultimately need to be recreated.
