Getting started in the FX module in ProFile

The QuickStart dialogue displays automatically when starting ProFile.

Each available module is a tab of the QuickStart menu. It has a small black arrow that expands to show the past tax years.

  1. Select the appropriate tax year under the FX/Q tab.
  2. Select Create a new link in the QuickStart menu.
  3. A new FX file opens.

Entering data on T4, T4A, and T5 slips

To enter data from these slips, open the ProFile Detail worksheet for the corresponding slip. For example, enter all T5 slip data on T5Details. Data flows from the Details form to the corresponding slip, and summary sent to the CRA.

Payer info goes from the FX Info form (if filled out) to summaries and slips. To enter this data right on a summary instead, check the box at the bottom of the Info form to turn off the automatic flow. Info will still go from the slips to the summary.

  1. Enter slip amounts on the Details forms in ProFile (for example, T5Detail).
  2. If ProFile has calculated adjustments on T4 slips, the adjusted amount displays at the bottom of the T4 detail entry.
  3. Data flows from the Detail worksheets to the slips and the summary forms (for example, T5Slip and T5Sum). You can't enter data directly on the slips. All the slip fields are non-edit (green text) fields.
  4. The summary form totals amounts from all the slips. You can override amounts on the summary if necessary.

Use the slips sidebar to the left of the Detail worksheet to find who you're sending the slips to. Sort info by selecting the sidebar headings. Or, use the scroll bar at the top of the Edit window to view the slips.

Creating an FX file from a T1 or T2 return

Heads up! This feature is only available if you have valid licenses for ProFile FX and ProFile T2.

Right-click any T1 or T2 tax return file and select Create FX to transfer info to a new FX file. ProFile will transfer identifying info from the tax return to the FX file (on the Info form) to save you time.

You can also create a new FX file when you select File > Import. Use this option to refresh info from a T1 or T2 return.

Note: This is a one-time data transfer. If anything changes in T1 or T2 and you want to reflect those changes in the FX file, open the FX file and go to File > Import.
