How long is my ProFile license good for?

In T1
If you have the latest license, you can prepare returns in the current year, plus all previous years where the T1 module is available. If you have only an expired T1 license, you can still do returns for that year plus previous years. As the next year's module is released during the current year, you can access the module until December 31 of the current year. For example:
If you purchased a 2021 T1 license and the 2022 module is released (in draft version) in September, you can start your 2022 returns. However, after December 31, 2022 you will need a 2022 T1 license (remember, the current module is the current tax year, so the previous calendar year).
In T2
With a T2 license, you can EFILE, print and prepare returns with year ends up to the date of expiry. For example, a 2021 T2 license will allow you to EFILE returns with year-ends up to December 31, 2022. However, ProFile is required to be certified for EFILE twice a year. This means you may need to wait for an updated release to file a return. See the chart below:
Release version | Approximate release date | Year-ends up to which can be EFILEd |
R1 | November | May 31 |
R5 | June | October 31 |
Example: If your client had a year-end of June 1, you will have to wait until the R5 release is available later in the month.
In T3
You can prepare current year T3s and all prior years plus the next year module until the expiry date (December 31). Starting January 1, you will need the new current tax year license to work in that module.
In FX
You can prepare current year FX files and all prior years plus the next year module until the expiry date (December 31). Starting January 1, you will need the new current tax year license to work in that module.

Quebec returns
If you are preparing returns to be filed to MRQ, you will require an additional license, with the exception of corporate returns. You can either purchase a OnePay for single returns or speak to your sales representative about adding purchasing a Quebec license upgrade. If you do not have access to the provincial tax forms, you will still be able to prepare, print and EFILE the federal return.
