Configuring ProFile for new T1 users

Follow the steps below if you are using ProFile for T1 filing for the first time; the list will help you to complete the ProFile set up and prepare for using the software.

Initial setup includes the following steps:

  • Configuring general T1 settings
  • Configuring database settings
  • Configuring tax preparer information
  • Configuring discounter information
  • Configuring carry forward settings
  • Configuring joint client letters or invoices settings
  • Configuring EFILE options
  • Reviewing the Options menu
  • Reviewing ProFile tutorials
  1. Select Options in the top toolbar menu.
  2. Select the T1/TP1 module tab.
  3. Select the General tab.
  4. Select settings to relate specifically to working with T1 returns; these can include file management settings, a disclaimer that appears on forms, and a form header that will print on all forms.
  5. Click the OK button. 
  1. Select Options > Database in the top toolbar menu.
  2. Select the applicable database and options. 
  3. Click the OK button. 
  1. Select Options > Environment in the top toolbar menu.
  2. Select the Preparer tab.
  3. Enter your preparer information and click the OK button. 
  1. Select Options > Environment in the top toolbar menu.
  2. Select the Trustee tab.
  3. Enter your discounter information and click the OK button. 
  1. Select Options in the top toolbar menu.
  2. Select the T1/TP1 module tab.
  3. Select the General tab.
  4. Select the applicable carry forward options. This material will be brought forward from previous year's returns.
  5. Click the OK button. 
  1. Select Options in the top toolbar menu.
  2. Select the T1/TP1 module tab.
  3. Select the General tab.
  4. Uncheck the Joint client letter and Joint client invoice options if you do not wish to print joint client documentation. 
  1. Select EFILE > Options in the top toolbar menu.
  2. Select the module required to EFILE. You will be prompted to enter your EFILE number and password.

Many settings and options are listed under Options in the top toolbar menu. ProFile ships with the most popular options selected, but the defaults allow you to take advantage of most of the functionality in ProFile.

Review the options under the Options menu to see if there are any changes you'd like to make. 

Tutorials can be found under the Training option in the top toolbar menu. Each module includes tutorials on getting started and other features in ProFile.
