No document control number is generated on T183 in the T1 module
by Intuit• Updated 1 year ago
The T183 is the information return for electronic filing of an individual's income tax return. It includes a document control number or confirmation number in Part G of the form.
Prior to 2014 tax year the document control number would get generated when the Profile user saved the return. ProFile would generate the number based on pre-established parameters including the Social Insurance Number of the individual.
Currently, the tax filer has the ability to file more than 1 tax return for an individual covering multiple years at the same time and the outdated algorithm that generated the document control number needed to be changed to accommodate this shift.
The tax preparer should still get the taxpayer to sign the form as per the instructions detailed on the T183:
- Part E must be signed before the return is electronically transmitted.
- Part G is to be completed by your electronic filer once the return has been submitted.
The document control number should be manually entered on the signed copy after EFILEing the return (part G is mandatory).
