Stop Windows 10 from changing the default printer

Every time a new printer is selected in the print dialogue, Windows sets that printer as the default printer.

You can switch this feature off by following the instructions below:

Windows 10

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to the Settings > Devices > Printers and Scanners.
  3. Find the option named Let Windows manage my default printer. Make sure this tab is set to Off.

Windows 11

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Search for Printer & Scanners on left side in search bar and select it
  3. Locate the option named Let Windows manage my default printer.
  4. Make sure this tab is set to Off.
