Stop Windows 10 from changing the default printer

Every time a new printer is selected in the print dialogue, Windows sets that printer as the default printer.

To switch this feature off, follow these instructions:

Windows 10

  1. Locate and open Settings.
  2. Go to Devices > Printers and Scanners.
  3. Find the option named Let Windows manage my default printer. Make sure this tab is set to Off.

Windows 11

  1. Locate and open Settings.
  2. Search for Printer and Scanners in the search bar, and then select it
  3. Locate the option named Let Windows manage my default printer.
  4. Make sure this tab is set to Off.
