Troubleshoot Proreg issues

by Intuit Updated 1 year ago

Sometimes, typically during updates or while carrying forward a return from a competitor’s software, a ProFile module may not be properly registered in the Windows registry.

ProFile has a module registry application that communicates with the Windows registry, and registers each year and module with Windows, allowing ProFile to open/create returns.

Despite being on the most recent software version, ProFile users might not see the option to create the current year tax return in the drop-down menu in the top toolbar.

The module is not properly registered. Refer to the article How to run Proreg for the resolution.

When trying to create a new return, a DAX error displays. Refer to the article How to run Proreg for the resolution.

Note: If trying to create a new FX file and the option is not available, check the license first. The FX license must be entered for the module to appear in the file menu.

When carrying forward T2 competitor files, ProFile might not identify the correct year. This will still allow the customer to create a return; however, ProFile will generate a warning concerning the corporation’s taxation year.

Refer to the article How to run Proreg for the resolution.

When preparing a tax return in the latest version, you receive the warning message year-end not supported and are not able to EFILE the tax return.

Refer to the article How to run Proreg for the resolution.

A ProFile user finds an error to be on the start date of the taxation year instead of on the end date.

This generally happens when trying to carry forward a competitor’s file; ProFile will try to open the returns in the most current module.

To force the software into opening the returns in the correct module:

  1. Open Proreg and de-select the years after 2005.
  2. Open ProFile.
  3. Carry the return forward again.
