Using the Background Updater feature in ProFile

The Background Updater feature lets you download and install program updates in ProFile without having to monitor their progress, allowing uninterrupted work during the download and install process.

The Background Updater is an optional feature that can be turned on and off as desired.

Setting up the Background Updater feature

You can review this video on how to set up the Background Updater:

1. Select Environment… from the Options… dropdown menu in the top toolbar. The Environment Options window displays.
2. Select the System tab.
3. Select both the Enable automatic check for updates and Enable updates to automatically download in the background options under the Automatic Check for Updates section:

4. Select OK to save the setting.

Making updates and installations

Once you have set the Background Updater option, a status dialog displays in the top toolbar of ProFile:

This dialog displays the status of ProFile updates. There are 4 statuses:

Up to date indicates you are currently using the latest version of ProFile. You can review your version information by selecting the dialog.

Download Update indicates a new update of ProFile is available. Download the latest version of ProFile by selecting the dialog. The download proceeds in the background without displaying a progress window.

Downloading indicates the download is underway.

Install Update indicates the download is complete and ready to be installed. Select the dialog to install and follow the steps presented. When the installation is complete, the dialog status will display as Up to date.

Note: If an available update has not been installed after 15 days the dialog displays in orange colour.
